HD Radio seems to become a more attractive feature for both auto manufacturers and new car buyers as companies involved in this side of the industry are upgrading their vehicles with this particular feature. Volkswagen of America today decided to make this step too, so several 2010 models already equipped with the DVD navigation system will also feature digital media with HD Radio Multi-casting technology.
And Volkswagen doesn't stop here. The German brand is looking into ways to offer HD Radio on future models equipped with touch-screen radio.
"As vehicle infotainment systems become more robust, Volkswagen continues to stay on the cutting edge of the latest technologies," said Toscan Bennett, Vice President Product Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "HD Radio technology provides our customers further audio enjoyment by providing additional channels and clearer sound quality," Bennett added.
"Volkswagen's HD Radio adoption further solidifies the technology's growing momentum in the automotive sector," said Jeff Jury, COO, iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting. "The Volkswagen brand truly manifests innovation and we're pleased that HD Radio technology has been recognized by yet another automaker for the benefits it offers all car owners."
HD Radio becomes more popular among American buyers, with subscription-free channels offering various content, including sports (such as NASCAR coverage or ESPN content) and multiple music genres. Furthermore, the data delivery supports displays important information such as song details, traffic updates, sport scores, stock quotes, movie listings and emergency alerts.
