Rolls Royce to Offer HD Radio Standard on All MY 2010 Cars

Rolls Royce has just decided to make its cars a bit more entertaining by starting offering HD radio as standard on all 2010 models. This means the luxury car manufacturer is the second company in the world to offer this feature on the entire product lineup after Swedish carmaker Volvo.

Specifically, HD radio will become available in the newly-developed Ghost but also on the three different flavors of Phantom, according to iBiquity, which developed the technology. Still, this isn’t the first time when HD radio will be accessible inside Rolls as the company sold it as an option since 2007.

In a similar move, German automaker Mercedes also decided to offer such a function to buyers opting for cars with premium packages including E-Klasse coupe, and E-, CL-, CLS-, S- and SLK-Klasse.

At this time, no less than seven brands are offering HD radio either as standard or optional: BMW, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes, MINI, Scion and Volvo.

Rolls Royce’s latest contraption, the Ghost, was officially revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September and will go on sale in the upcoming months. It will be powered by a 6.6-liter V12 twin turbo powerplant that generates a maximum power of 563 hp and 780 Nm of torque. This means the car can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 155 mph (250 km/h), obviously electronically limited by the manufacturer for your personal safety.

The aforementioned powerplant is mated to an eight-speed automatic ZF gearbox, with the entire system releasing - hold your breath (literally) - 317 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The fuel consumption goes around 20.8 mpg / 13.6 l/100km.
