MV Agusta has started recalling 223 motorcycles in the US, under the NHTSA campaign number 14V189000. The Italian manufacturer has already notified all customers and will schedule repairs in the authorized dealerships, free of charge.
The problem which has triggered the recall (MV Agusta’s internal recall number is 2798) is a potential failure of the threaded bolt securing the swingarm pin. MV Agusta determined that these bolts may fail, even under normal circumstances, and allow the swingarm to loosen while riding, which poses a major threat to both rider’s safety and the well-being of other motorists.

An MV Agusta worker reported that this bolt broke suddenly while attempting to tighten it to the specified 70 Nm torque. An internal investigation was carried out and it found that a batch of bolts supplied previously were not manufactured correctly, with a non-conformant heath treatment and quenching. All the remaining bolts have been isolated.

The affected bikes have been manufactured December 18, 2013, through March 10, 2014 and they belong to the model year 2014 of the following models: Brutale 675, Brutale 800, Brutale RR (Corsa), F3 675, F3 800 and Rivale 800. No reports of crashes due to this issue are known to the moment of writing.

If you’re not sure whether your MV Agusta needs a new securing bolt for the swingarm pin, you can reach the manufacturer at 1-215-781-1770, or contact your nearest MV Agusta dealer.
