Mosley: "Todt Will Do a Better Job Than Me"

Now that he seemed to have taken care of all unfinished business in Formula One, FIA president Max Mosley resumed his public backing of Jean Todt for the presidency of the ruling body, to be held in October. With only the Frenchman and counter-candidate Ari Vatanen in the race for the FIA seat, there's no doubt where Mosley stands.

Only days after finalizing one of the most serious scandals in the history of the sport – namely the crash gate – Mosley insisted that Todt will make the world of Formula One, and motor sport in general, a lot less prone to this kind of conflicts. In addition, he argued that the Frenchman will not give the team bosses in F1 a hard time, as all the “hard rules” have already been introduced in his own mandate.

With all the fights being held during his last mandate, Todt would only have to supervise the well-going of the FIA policies.

Jean will do a much better job than me in many, many ways. And in some ways he will upset the F1 teams less because he probably won't come up with the next big idea. He will make sure it all runs like clockwork and is completely fair, honest, open and transparent – and that is what you need,” said Mosley, according to the British magazine Autosport.

In addition, Mosley guaranteed Todt will not let his past commitments in the sport get to him once he'll become president.

The thing about Jean is that when he was Peugeot he was 100 per cent Peugeot. When he was Ferrari he was 100 per cent Ferrari. And when he is FIA he will be 100 per cent FIA. There will be no old ties or loyalties to Ferrari, or Peugeot or Citroen. He will be totally down the line. And that is the good thing about him. He is absolutely open, absolutely honest. Sometimes he upsets people because he says it as he sees it. He is not a politician in telling people what they want to hear – and that is what we need,” added the FIA president.
