Mosley Criticizes Luca di Montezemolo's Weak Character

Luca di Montezemolo has barely stepped down from his position as chairman of the Fiat Group and he is already the target of several attacks in the media. However, those attacks have nothing to do with his work at Fiat, but with the decisions he's made in the motor racing world, Formula One to be more precise.

Former FIA president Max Mosley was the one to hit at Di Montezemolo's poor judgement calls, saying that the Italian possesses a very weak character.

Luca is very, very good with people and he's certainly a very personable, pleasant person, but, in my opinion, he's also a very weak character so he's easily led,” said Mosley in a lengthly interview with F1 Racing (May edition).

Additionally, the former FIA official reiterated his belief that Ferrari would not stand a chance against the other teams in case a budget cap would be applied in Formula One in the years to come. He actually revealed the Scuderia were the only ones who argued against the budget cap proposal early in 2008.

Between January and May in 2008, we had a series of meetings and everyone was agreed on the cost-cap and the methodology – but Ferrari were always against it. I think it's because they know that if they had the same amount of money to spend as the other teams, they would fail,” added the 70-year old Brit.

However, Mosley's weren't only negative feelings towards Ferrari, as he admitted the FIA always had a good relationship with the Italian company due to the fact that they were “completely honest and open with you; most of the other teams wouldn't do that.” This is what made the F1 fans believe the FIA favored Ferrari in the past, argued Mosley.
