Mosley Continues to Back Todt for the FIA Presidency

Although this has constantly attracted plenty of public critics from Ari Vatanen, current FIA president Max Mosley continued to lobby for former Ferrari boss Jean Todt. The 69-year old Brit couldn't keep an independent stand when talking to Germany's newspaper Bild and once again hinted that Todt would be the best for the FIA job.

He has the experience in Formula One as well as huge success. He has leadership qualities and quite simply is the best man for the job,” Mosley was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

Until now, only the Frenchman has announced his election agenda for the FIA presidency, as former WRC champion Ari Vatanen is yet to reveal his team. Earlier this month, Todt issued a statement in which he pointed out the changes FIA needs to undergo in order to make the governing process more effective.

A system of commissioners will reduce the need for the FIA president, or deputy to become directly involved in any particular championship and give more time to the leadership to concentrate on the strategic management of the FIA as a whole embracing the twin pillars of both mobility and motor sport,” wrote Todt in his election agenda last week.

Other changes to the way FIA works refer to the stewarding system and functioning of the World Motor Sport Council.

Referring to that strong bond between Mosley and Todt, Vatanen insisted that this may very well be regarded as an attack to the FIA's democratic values.

It is wrong that Max wants to impose the new leader. The FIA is not a kingdom but rather a republic whose leaders are elected democratically,” said Vatanen in an interview with Spanish newspaper Diario AS last month.
