Jean Todt Reveals Election Agenda for FIA Presidency

Having Frenchman Jean Todt as the new president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) doesn't mean he will become directly involved in the actual governance of the Formula One Champiosnhip. At least that's how Todt's latest promise sounds, as the former Ferrarian said he will appoint a commissioner to take care of all F1-related business.

This non “what you see is what you get” message to the Formula One representatives was sent by Todt during the unveiling of his election agenda, on Wednesday. Planning to take care of the Great Circle the North American professional sports' way, the new commissioner will be “responsible for the (FIA's) day to day management and governance.”

Just to give you a clue on what Jean Todt is planning to actually DO when or if he becomes president of the FIA, here's a excerpt from his agenda.

A system of commissioners will reduce the need for the FIA president, or deputy to become directly involved in any particular championship and give more time to the leadership to concentrate on the strategic management of the FIA as a whole embracing the twin pillars of both mobility and motor sport,” wrote Todt.

Also, echoing the worries expressed by the Formula One teams and drivers (in recent years) regarding the poor and rather controversial stewarding system, Todt promised the FIA members to institute a Stewards Review Group to “examine improvements to the stewarding system in the sport and also to explore the development of stewards training courses to encourage their professional development.

In addition, the World Motor Sport Council will no longer be asked to give sentences in controversial cases such as the Ferrari spy-gate or Lewis Hamilton lying-gate, but be replaced by a new Disciplinary Panel “to carry out investigations, hold hearings and recommended possible penalties” for the World Motor Sport Council to consider.

Todt's rival for the FIA job Ari Vatanen is yet to disclose details of his governing programme, prior to the October elections.
