Montoya Gets Phone Call from Williams

Juan Pablo Montoya almost started a new rumor inside the Formula One paddock, after writing on his Twitter page that he recently received a phone call from Frank Williams. Soon after matching his best result in career on an oval track inside the Sprint Cup Series – runner-up spot at Pocono Raceway – Montoya hinted that Formula One wants him back.

Frank Williams called me this morning to say hi,” confirmed Montoya on his personal page.

It's no news that Montoya looks at the period of time in which he competed for Williams-BMW as his best in Formula One. He only contested for 2 outfits in his 6 years of F1, and his time at McLaren is far from being considered a “good time” for the Colombian driver.

In mid-2006, Montoya decided to leave McLaren Mercedes – whom he joined at the beginning of 2005 – following a series of disagreements with team boss Ron Dennis. He switched back to North American racing, this time in the NASCAR series.

The 33-year old is currently experiencing his best year in the Sprint Cup series, despite not being able to secure a single win all season. He is placed 8th overall in the drivers' standings and almost certainly qualified for the Sprint Cup playoff this year. Under the circumstances, there seems to be no coming back for Montoya as far as Formula One is concerned, as confirmed by himself in the same Twitter message.

It was very special talking to him again. He is a very nice guy ... and no, I'm not going (back) to F1,” concluded the Colombian.
