Here’s more proof that you can avoid huge expenses with a little creativity, some chemistry and solid technical knowledge. Simply put, this man fixed a Toyota battery pack by only spending $10, instead of $4,456, the amount of money Toyota asked.
Others said it, an we will also say it: buying a second hand cars is a tricky thing, with lots of variables that have to be taken into consideration. The same thing applies to buying an used hybrid, but with a greater chance of things going sideways because you know, batteries and all that.

It happened to Imgur user scoodidabop but the way he tackled the issue saved his pockets from some serious trouble. In fact, he managed to save $4,446 by solving the problem with vinegar, water and baking soda.

After buying a second-hand Toyota Camry Hybrid, one day the guy was heading home when the dashboard started to light up like it was a Christmas tree, along with “Check Hybrid System” and “Check Engine” lights turning on.

He took the car to a Toyota dealer and here’s what happened: “after about 4 hours the service center called me with the news. “Are you sitting down?” he said. “Should I be?” I replied. “Um. Yeah I think so” he said. “Your hybrid battery has ‘gone bad’ and needed to be replaced. It’s a $4,400 job.”

Next thing you know, his MacGyver mode kicked in and after realizing nothing was really wrong with the battery pack, he started cleaning up the battery’s copper connectors as they were heavily corroded.

In other words, the man soaked the connectors in vinegar for 34 hours, scrubbed them down and put them in water and baking soda. After this treatment, everything was put back together and now his Camry Hybrid is working like a charm.

However clever this solution might be, please bear in mind that the guy has plenty of experience as an electrician and you should not try and do what he did unless you have solid expertise in this area and always remember to wear safety equipment: gloves, eye protection and long sleeves.
