The good folks over at the Upshift channel on YouTube bring us feisty action of the classic GM versus Blue Oval variety from Maple Grove Raceway – with a couple of twists.
Soon, there will be no more Detroit Three when speaking of the American muscle car market. Last we heard, General Motors decided that Chevrolet needed to cut short the 2024 Camaro production – instead of January 2024, they would end manufacturing in late November for the Convertible and early December for the Coupe.

Stellantis, on the other hand, has ordained that Dodge will give up its V8 Hemi lifestyle for the Challenger and Charger – with reports claiming the Hurricane inline-six will become the go-to performance option for those who do not want to embark on the EV journey previewed by the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT concept.

Alone, Ford will keep the banner up with the S650 seventh-generation Mustang, complete with EcoBoost and Coyote V8 goodies. However, all that doesn't necessarily impact all aspects of the classic muscle car world. Sometimes, all you need is a couple of older rivals that were heavily upgraded to try and bring quarter-mile dragstrip glory to their respective owners to understand the passion behind the GM versus Ford brawls.

For example, just recently, 'Upshift featured extensive coverage of the No Prep Kings 'Outlaw Big Tire' event that took place at Maple Grove Raceway – an NHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile dragstrip located near Mohnton, Pennsylvania, just outside Reading. But, of course, some highlights need to be treated separately because they're just too cool to potentially get lost in translation.

On this occasion, the focus was on a blue Ford Mustang Fox Body that looked like it had just come out of a very expensive restomod procedure. However, it's all a ruse because this 'Stang means business at the racetrack, complete with cookie cutters at the front and big, meaty tires at the back. Its opponent, which looks like a first-gen Chevy Camaro RS that went through a volcano of fireworks, is not too shabby, either, given its wheelie bar.

Well, as it turns out, the one who needed the wheelie-stopping device was its opponent. In contrast, the Camaro probably needs to dial down on initial power delivery – the Chevy almost lost control immediately after passing the Christmas tree. At the same time, the Blue Oval monster was busy trying to keep its front wheels as close as possible to the ground. In the end, interestingly, the Chevy driver regained control and sped past the Ford that was in deeper trouble than anyone in the stands imagined.

Awestruck, the public watched silently as the Fox Body veered toward the concrete barrier, went sideways, and drifted aimlessly as the driver deployed the parachute to try and recover the potential spin. Whether it was luck, quick thinking, or a combination of both, this driver ultimately delivered the "cleanest save in NPK" (No Prep Kings), according to the description – and didn't even hit anything. In the end, naturally, the confident driver even got the public worked up for a grand cheer!
