Mitsubishi used the Johannesburg International Motor Show to introduce two new models on the local market, Pajero Sport and Prototype X, both of them globally unveiled by the Japanese company in the first months of 2008.
Mitsubishi's Prototype X is a Lancer Evolution X concept, featuring a new platform, exterior, interior and engine. Prototype X is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder 16-valve engine developing a maximum torque of 422 Nm at 3500 rpm. Mitsubishi says the new engine is lighter and produces lower emissions than its predecessors. In terms of features, this model integrates the Super All Wheel Control system that provides advanced dynamics controls, combined with a recently-upgraded Twin Clutch Sport Shift Transmission.
Pajero Sport is a new SUV available in two engine configurations, namely a 3.2- and a 3.5-liter V6 petrol-powered, both of them being focused on fuel economy and gas emissions. This model is produced in Thailand and comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission, with safety features such as ABS, EBD and Mitsubishi's Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution plus driver and front passenger airbags.
“Mitsubishi is all about those who want to embark on adventurous driving. Our brand is committed to providing the utmost driving pleasure and safety for our valued customers. These are commitments we will never compromise,” divisional manager of Mitsubishi Motors SA, Suraiya Naidoo, commented on the new releases.
Beside the two new releases, the Japanese carmaker also talked about the company's efforts to design fuel-efficient engines that would provide lowered emissions that the models already available on the market. “At the pinnacle of our environmental technology, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has introduced the zero-emissions i-MiEV electric vehicle, a new-generation solution that will play an important role in putting the brakes on global warming,” Naidoo said.
