Ziggy, aka ziggymoto on social media, a creative director by day, bike builder by night, and a virtual artist in between, stands behind this hypothetical bike that would make anyone drop their jaw, gasp for air, and then laugh silly at the sheer genius of it.
I have to admit that although I have been around cars and bikes since I was little – in fact, I was around airplanes for a good while, too – I have never focused my professional career on anything that didn't have four wheels attached to it. As such, I'm more of a car journalist and only a bike enthusiast every now and then (I still secretly dream of airplanes, though).
As part of my daily routine at the office, I keep tabs on lots of virtual artists and CGI automotive channels because they're a never-ending source of daze and amazement – they're also great if you want to daydream or try to imagine what the next refresh or all-new generation (and even a revival or two) look like from your favorite automaker.
However, recently, I stumbled upon a recommended post on social media that I just couldn't leave unattended, even though it involved a bike design project, and that makes it out of my area of expertise. But, oh gosh, this thing rocks. In fact, while I gave up on the hopes of going 200 mph on a supersport motorcycle a long time ago, this would easily make me take up the moto classes I have been postponing for so long the minute it turned real. Alas, I do know that's not possible, sadly.
So, this genius moto and car guy – he also has a passion for old-school Dodge Chargers rocking the ride height and wheels plus tires of a monster truck – imagined a 'ShapeShift' motorcycle that not only has hollow wheels and looks like it's coming from a utopian future where all diseases and wars have disappeared, but it also morphs from café racer to sports bike, cruiser, and then also a dirt bike!
Yes, it's simply wishful thinking – but I do hope that one day humanity will overcome everything that separates us and unite the minds of genius people into doing projects like this. As such, we could easily go on a trail adventure, ride to work, or take the missus for a night out in town, all with the same vehicle. That's what I would call progress, at least as far as two-wheeled vehicles are concerned.
Naturally, I suppose this motorcycle is also electric or powered by something that has enough energy to make the tires grow all-terrain threads when their street qualities are no longer needed. Now, frankly, I do see a good use for this concept in 2023 – maybe they could use it for that long-awaited sequel to a Hollywood blockbuster like Edge of Tomorrow?
