It’s been five years since heavy metal band Metallica released a studio album, but the American group seems to be alive and kicking through other activities. Lead singer James Hetfield, for instance, has been busy with his custom cars lately.
Probably most of you didn’t know he owns a few hotrods and that he put a lot of hard work into them. But it’s true, James has a big thing for cars and looking at this video makes us think that Metallica’s not his main interest right now. It’s all about Orion’s Custom Car & Motorcycle Show. Yep, you guessed it, it’s named after the all-instrumental track from their 1986 masterpiece album, “Master of Puppets”.

“Building cars is always an escape [...] It’s the same with music. I don’t know what I’m gonna make. Cars are like people to me, they like love. They love to be touched, they love to be handled, they love to be driven... they love to be admired [...] This is a form of expression and freedom and you can get away with driving something like that but still have your personality show through. It’s just like looking at art. You look at a piece and you go ‘I don’t get it!’. And you look at something else and say ‘that is amazing, wish I though of that!’,” said Hetfield.

From the automotive point of view, it sure looks like James knows his art, but we just realized why Metallica still doesn’t have new studio material. See for yourselves below.
