The German luxury car manufacturers race is heating up, with lots of completely new models coming from all of them. No matter how hard they will try, it is next-to-impossible for Mercedes or Audi to overtake BMW any time soon, however, the race for second place is quite close.
Audi overtook Mercedes in 2011 by a margin of just 40.000 units and, according to the Center of Automotive Research at the Duisburg-Essen University, Mercedes will reclaim 2nd place by 2015. In order to make it happen, they will introduce five new cars based on the MFA platform, as well as 10 completely new cars for which no predecessor exists, including converting new A-Class into a much sportier car.

They plan on selling 1.6-million vehicles in 2015, while Audi is aiming for 2-million by 2020 seeking to take the crown away from BMW. Growth in the US and China may be the key to Audi’s success (if achieved) but Mercedes and BMW can both benefit from the booming Chinese market - it's going to be close!
