Mercedes SLS Gullwing Wins iF Product Design Award

The great job Mercedes' engineers and designers did when creating and building the new SLS with gullwing doors have been once again recognized by an international organization.

The car's design has drew all the attention and praises of the 24-member jury who judged 778 entries in 16 categories from all areas of human activities. The SLS won the "iF product design award 2010" in the "Transportation Design" category.

"This sought-after award for the new SLS AMG is a great honor for us. It also reflects the extremely positive feedback on the design of the SLS that we have been receiving since the September world premiere at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt/Main," Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz said.

The winners of the iF product design award are allowed to use the iF label for the entire lifecycle of the product receiving the award. The award ceremony is to be held on the first day of the CeBIT fair in Hanover.

The winners of the iF gold awards for outstanding design performance will be announced on 2 March 2010. After that, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will be on display until August 2010 as part of a design exhibition which the organizers expect around 250,000 visitors from all over the world to attend.

The iF product design award covers all areas of product design, from kitchen items to cars and all the way through their packaging. "It serves as a platform for design-relevant innovations, thus recognizing today's globally networked world and its related dynamics," iF says.
