In the last few years, the effects of the global downturn have affected every aspect of the automotive market. However, this hasn’t stopped the auto world from venturing into the niche woods deeper than ever before.
We are talking about the niche segments’ tendency to become more popular and thus, more populated.
After yesterday we reported that BMW is preparing a shooting break model based on the future 6 Series, now its Mercedes’s turn to generate a piece of shooting break news.
According to Autobild, the German automotive producer is working on a new model that will be included in the C-Klasse range and will use the aforementioned layout.
The C-Klasse shooting break will use the CLC designation and will be introduced between the C-Klasse sedan and wagon, but will come with a lowered roofline.
The vehicle will borrow some of the design cues shown on the CLS Shooting Break concept (the car you see in the adjacent image). The car will be based on the B-Klasse platform.
It seems like the company’s designers haven’t decided weather the vehicle will use a three- or a five-door layout. The first layout would make it a proper shooting break, while the second would offer more practicality and bring the vehicle closer to an estate.
Under the hood of the vehicle, we can expect to find multiple turbocharged units that will deliver a high level of efficiency. The engines will offer a power rating ranging from 108 hp to 272 hp, with a 4Matic All-Wheel-Drive system available.
The Mercedes CLC Shooting Brake is expected to hit the market in fall 2013.
