BMW 6 Series Shooting Brake Coming

BMW is planning a true 6 Series offensive, with the model line expected to offer four different vehicles. Three of these are already known: the Coupe, the Cabrio and the recently-confirmed Grand Coupe. The fourth model will be a (are you prepared?)... shooting brake!

According to autoexpress, BMW’s product development manager Dr Klaus Draeger told the aforementioned source that the company is currently considering building the car, adding that its concept version has already come to life and that it could make its public debut in October at the Paris Motor Show.

The vehicle will be based on the Gran Coupe four-door concept that was presented at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year.

The upcoming BMW 6 Series Shooting Brake could come with the same engine range as the other versions of the 6 Series. This means that the car will be powered by the German automotive producer’s 3.0 liter six-cylinder petrol and diesel units, as well as the top of the range turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 powerplant.

The fact that BMW plans to introduce these niche versions of the 6 Series means that the “classic” Coupe and Cabrio models will use a rather conventional design. To be more precise, the two versions won’t offer a radical change compared to the current generation of the vehicle. The models will follow the same overall shape, but will come with fresh details.

The future 6 Series will also receive a hybrid version, which could adopt the 655 name. It is unclear yet which versions of the car will be offered as hybrids.
