Mercedes GP Confirms Full Focus on 2011 Car

With Mercedes GP struggling to keep the pace with the championship front-runners Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren, team principal Ross Brawn will proceed to something every team manager would do in his position: switch to the development of the 2011 single-seater.

Being that almost two thirds of the season have gone and the Brackley based team is on a distant 4th in the manufacturers classification – not to mention the fact that both its drivers have no realistic chances to battle for the world title – Brawn confirmed that his team's main focus after the summer break will be the 2011 car.

There were another set of regulations this year with no refueling, and one or two other things. We didn't perhaps hit the sweet spot with the current car, so I don't think we will throw much more resource at it. We understand what we need to do next year and that is where we are putting our major efforts,” confirmed Brawn after the Hungarian Grand Prix, an event which again saw his team walk away point-less.

Brawn confirmed the W01 will feature one more update this year, at Singapore, but even so the focus of his engineers will be centered only on the 2011 car from now on.

I think there is one more step we want to do before the end of the year to take full advantage of the low exhaust position, that is something we will target for Singapore. That was coming through already but clearly after the break our priority will be the new car,” added Brawn.

Following the set of changes brought to Formula One for 2010, a new series of modifications will hit the technical regulations next year also, with the main two being the return of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) and the new tires by Pirelli.
