Mercedes GP Brings EUR2 Million Motorhome in Monaco

Mercedes Grand Prix has unveiled in Monaco its new motorhome that will be used starting this weekend’s Grand Prix of the Principality.

In Spain, Mercedes GP used a motorhome usually seen in the DTM paddocks, because of the tight turnaround time between the first two European races. The German team put together in the Monaco paddock a new three-storey structure that resembles a glass-fronted office building.

The first picture of the new motorhome was posted on the team’s official Twitter site. German reports say the motor home has been made at a cost of less than 2 million euros, a bargain compared to the EUR15m cost of Red Bull's Energy Station.

While Mercedes and Red Bull's motor homes were already in Monaco, the first motor home to arrive from Spain on Monday morning was Renault's. The Enstone based team reportedly bought the motor home operated last year by the departed Toyota. McLaren's so-called Brand Centre takes longer to disassemble, and as of late Monday it had not arrived in Monaco.

"We have not wasted one more Euro than we needed to spend on this," Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug was quoted as saying by Autosport. The motorhome is made up of 16 separate container units that are slotted together to form the structure, which as well as having two floors features a terrace area too.

Several teams showed off new motorhomes in Spain last weekend, including Virgin Racing, with Force India deciding to wait until Turkey to debut its new structure.
