Red Bull Asked Vettel to Pull Out of the Spanish Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel has revealed he was asked to pull out of the race by his Red Bull team before finishing the Spanish Grand Prix in third place.

With 15 laps to go, the Red Bull driver suffered braking problem and made a pitstop so that the damage could be inspected. Before sending the young German onto the circuit, mechanics and engineers noticed a brake disc was damaged.

"When I got back out the team told me that I should quit the race," Vettel said in an interview with Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. "They said the risk because of the broken brake was too great. I asked them if that was really necessary or whether I could just drive slowly and pick up some points”, Vettel added.

"I got no answer. So I drove. In the middle of the last corner I then got the message 'keep going, but be careful', but it was too late anyway. I was already past the pit entry," added the German.

Sebastian Vettel said he managed to finish the race by shifting the brake bias all the way to the rear in order to protect the front brakes. "They were pretty worried on the pitwall and I was constantly reminded to drive more slowly," he added.

Vettel was helped finish the race in third place by Michael Schumacher, who held off other front-runners like Button or Massa. “In the last 10 laps I was just lucky because there was so much gap back to Michael I was able to bring the car home," said Vettel.
