There are two main ways of building a sleeper. The first has to do with the classic adventure involving an engine swap that has the power to make jaws drop, while the second involved vehicles such as the GL63 AMG we have here and moderate amounts of engine compartment work.
In factory trim, the Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG delivers staggering straight line performance, and we don't have to add the usual "considering its size". However, when such an SUV is gifted with a tuning package that adds some 30% extra power, you end up with a sleeper.

Anybody who doesn't trust that, as well as those who do, can watch the devastating effects such a behemoth can have on its competitors during a drag race.

Yes, a drag race - as you can imagine, once the GL receives such treatment, it spends more time guzzling gas than serving family purposes.

The GL63 we have here has been gifted with a Renntech package, one that brings the output to 730 hp and 811 lb-ft (1,100 Nm) of twist. The list of modded items includes the twin turbos, intake, intercooler, exhaust, as well as the tranny.

This 5,730 lbs (2,600 kg) machine recently engaged in a drag brawl with a Dodge Challenger Hellcat and a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, with the fight getting overly vicious.

The event, which took place in Germany, involved rolling starts and measured the maximum speed after a distance of 300 meters (984 feet). So let's see how the three did. The Renntech GL63 delivered a trap speed of 112 mph (180 km/h), while the Hellcat came with an identical value. As for the Raging Bull, which seems to pack at least a custom exhaust, this climbed to 116 mph (187 km/h).

However, when it came to leaving the starting point behind, it looks like the Mercedes taught the other two a lesson - check out the piece of footage below for your personal analysis.
