Mercedes FleetBoard App Upgraded

German manufacturer Mercedes Benz is slowly expanding its telematics systems offering, already releasing in the past few months several smartphone apps to be used by its customers. The latest such system is the FleetBoard, announced today as the first telematics system with fleet management and operating analysis for iPhone and iPad.

FleetBoard can be used by fleet owners and operators to monitor the route of the vehicles, schedules and all the information required to make any trip more cost effective. The app is said to allow fuel and servicing costs and CO2 emissions of commercial vehicles to drop by around 7 percent in the first month of use.

"With this app, FleetBoard provides even more transparency and an additional fleet management tool for increased productivity throughout the vehicle fleet,"
stated Markus Lipinsky, Daimler FleetBoard general manager. "It is an ergonomic compilation of the most important information from our vehicle and logistics service.

FleetBoard allows for the monitoring of vehicle positions and tours, as well as driver behavior. Fleet operators can send text messages to the drivers at any time to give them new tasks, announce them of a change in schedule while keeping a close look on the driving time left.

"This is just about the best management tool currently available in the logistics market," said Hubertus Kobernuss, haulage company Kobernuss general manager. "My schedulers have mobile access to the vehicles, and use the app several times each day. The technology works perfectly – I am extremely happy with it."
