Did you think Mercedes was done with the E-Class for this year? Think again! The Germans have at least one more version to show later this month at the 2013 Auto Shanghai show.
This completely undisguised car is a production model that was spotted testing by The simplest was to describe it is "a long wheelbase version of the E-Class that's powered by a hybrid engine".

The car has "400L" written on the back As you all know, the E400 Hybrid has already been available for about a year as a normal wheelbase car. This model is powered by a V6 gasoline engine that generates 302 hp (225 kW or 306 PS) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque, along with an extra 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) produced by the 20 kW electric motor.

But this isn't the 400L Hybrid, it's the new 400L, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine. This new powertrain offers a respectable 333 hp (245 kW) and 480 Nm of torque. That's only 27 hp more than the E350, but there's a 110 Nm of extra torque, and it's available from just 1600 rpm, not 3500 rpm like in the naturally aspirated version.

China has put its own twist on the car by making it a long wheelbase model. The extra room added into the platform benefits the front seat passengers, who get to enjoy increased legroom. Porsche has also prepared a long wheelbase version of the Panamera for the upcoming 2013 Auto Shanghai.
