Daimler’s Mercedes division has just taken the wraps off its significantly refreshed E-Class family of vehicles. The mid-life refresh gives the upcoming sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible a sexy new grille, softer lines and loads of advanced safety systems.
Together with this cosmetic change, the Australian market will also get a very special new addition, the E300 BlueTec Hybrid. The engine has already been revealed on the pre-facelift E-Class but has never been available Down Under.
Its powertrain combines the 2.1-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel from the E300 blueTec and combines it with an electric motor that produces its own 19 kW of power, thus reducing combined fuel consumption to just 4.1 liters per 100 km.
Despite it green credentials, it can manage a very decent very good 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of just over seven seconds. If top speed is what Australians are after, this is also good at 218 km/h (136 mph).
