Mercedes E 63 AMG Gets 5.5l V8 Biturbo

Part of the AMG Performance 2015 strategy announced by the in-house tuning division of German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, AMG introduced on Wednesday a new engine on the E 63 AMG. The new 5.5l V8 biturbo unit has been borrowed from the CLS 63 AMG to bring a notch of extra power to the range.

The monstrous engine is capable of developing anywhere in between 525 hp and 557 hp, while at the same time keeping the fuel consumption levels as low as possible: 9.8l/100 kilometers (according to NEDC combined). The consumption figures are some 20 percent lower than the ones that came out from the engine currently to be found on the E 63 AMG, the 6.3l V8 naturally aspirated.

The new engine to be fitted into the model will be paired to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. The transmission would give the model an acceleration time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h.

To go with the new engine, AMG tweaked the model itself as well, adding a few new touches to the exterior and interior. On the outside, new light-alloy wheels and "V8 BITURBO" lettering present the car as being something different.

At the interior, the addition of a new steering wheel in a three-spoke design and E-SELECT shift lever with embossed AMG badge make the difference.

The German automaker also released the pricing information for the new model. In Europe, the model will sell from EUR105,971 for the saloon version and from EUR108,409 for the estate. AMG also offers an AMG Performance package and a driver's package for EUR8,306 and EUR3,213, respectively.
