The world of luxury and performance automobiles might get even more stranger in the coming years. As you might already know, BMW is likely to use a 3.3-liter V6 with at least two turbos in the next M3, but Mercedes is also to do something that’s uncharacteristic.
According to CAR Magazine reports, which cite unnamed Mercedes insiders, the automaker will launch a straight-six engine in 2015 as part of their downsizing offensive. Also, a new four-cylinder unit and a twin-turbo V8 will arrive. Does any of these units resonate with Mercedes’ past? Well, a bit.

This might have something to do with both their expected BMW X6 rival that will be built in America, and also with their collaboration with Aston Martin, as reports have indicated the Brits want straight-six units in the future.
