Mercedes is all about being eco-minded at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt today, revealing not only the stunning F125 Concept, but also a new E-CELL vehicle based on the fresh B-Class, that’s only recently been revealed.
Getting straight to the point, this is the first Mercedes electric vehicle with a range extender. The car is powered by a 100 kW electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery. This can be juiced by a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine that provides extra current when needed. Pure electric range is 100 km (62 miles), but the Mercedes Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus Concept can go for a 600 Km trip if its wants to.
The concept isn’t exactly slow, as it gets to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a respectable 11 seconds and tops out at a maximum speed of 150 Km/h (93 mph).
It’s also packed full with safety-assist tech like Attention Assis, Blind Spor and Lane Keep Assist, Active Parking Assist, Speed Limit Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Brake Hold and Hill Hold function, Reversing camera and the Pre-Safe system which is a first for a vehicle in this class.
