Packed with pretty much everything that Mercedes-Benz has to offer right now, the new three-pointed star flagship has taken the luxury segment by storm once again.
A tad lighter, more elegant and much more technologically advanced in terms of comfort and safety than its predecessor, the new S-Class W222 is even closer to the “best car in the world” stereotype it has acquired in test drives over the years.

The Germans from Auto Bild took an S 500 short wheelbase for a spin and decided to pit it against a BMW 750i in order to see which of the two models would prove to be closer to being “the perfect car."

In terms of powerplants, the two models are closer than ever to each other, with each of them sporting a twin-turbocharged V8 that pushes them from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than five seconds.

The S 500 has a 4.7-liter twin-turbo V8 with direct injection that develops 455 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb ft) of torque, while the BMW 750i has a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with direct injection that offers 450 hp and 650 Nm (479 lb ft) of torque.

Judging their technical capabilities strictly on paper, the new S 500 is more powerful, torquier, just as fast and more economical than the 750i, but not according to Auto Bild, who for some reason are quoting misleading numbers for the Mercedes-Benz.

Their comparison ends in even stranger waters, with the S 500 outclassing the 750i in almost every category and being crowned the better overall car, but with the BMW winning the comparison for being cheaper...
