Mercedes-Benz Pickup Concept Teaser Shows Glimpses of a Very Beautiful Truck

Back in July, a timeline of the Mercedes-Benz models planned for 2017 leaked, and it clearly showed that the company's first pickup is going to come next year. Earlier this week, we got further confirmation that the utilitarian vehicle was going to have an official unveiling ceremony next Tuesday, on October 25, but there was a catch.

The event that will be held in Stockholm, Sweeden, will only show a concept car, and not the production version. For that, we're going to have to wait a little longer. How long? Hopefully, we will find out next Tuesday, but earlier rumor suggested next year's Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil, so that remains a possibility.

Mercedes-Benz is still keeping the name of the new car a secret, referring to it as 'The Pickup' for now. The short announcement accompanying the teaser warns us that we should get ready for a surprise, but unless it's electric and fully autonomous, we really can't see how it could surprise anyone.

The Mercedes-Benz pickup has been spotted before, albeit with such a heavy camouflage hiding its lines that, frankly, any other pickup could have been hiding underneath. Speaking of 'underneaths,' the Mercedes-Benz pickup - most likely to be called the GLT-Class - is build on the ladder frame of the Nissan Navara NP300 (the same vehicle that also spawned the Renault Alaskan), which means that the German vehicle gets a significant headstart in life.

The Nissan connection also means that the GLT will use a coil-spring five-link rear suspension system, a set-up that favors comfort over heavy-duty hauling capabilities. But that's hardly a surprise, as even though it's part of the commercial vehicles department, the GLT remains a Mercedes-Benz above all else.

Another good news that will add to the refinement offered by the new pickup is the rumor regarding the power unit under the GLT's hood. Instead of the utilitarian 2.3-liter dCi, the Mercedes should have a 3.0-liter V6, meaning it'll offer a smoother ride in both power delivery and vibrations.

This teaser video does not provide any new answers to the questions we already had, but it does show a very sexy pickup, one that actually looks better than any SUV in the current Mercedes-Benz lienup. If the front end of this 'Concept' is any indication of what to expect from future Mercedes 4x4s, then we're sold.
