Mercedes-Benz is a very constant presence in motorsport, dominating Formula 1 and putting up a solid fight in DTM. Apparently, there are some series where the German carmaker doesn’t deliver the expected results.
That’s the case in Australia’s V8 Supercars series, where Erebus Motorsports used to compete with Mercedes race cars and is now switching to Holdens for the forthcoming season. The team is known for adapting and competing with the E63 AMG in the Australian touring car series.

After competing with a pair of Mercedes SLS AMGs in the Australian GT Championship, Erebus then moved to V8 Supercars in 2013 and brought Mercedes along with it. In three years on the grid, the pair won only two races, one in 2014 and another in 2015, and managed to get in eleventh place in the teams championship in 2013 and 2015, and in seventh in 2014.

The racing team is one of seven that also chose to run the Holden VF Commodore in this year’s championship. Holden is Australian motorsport’s most successful manufacturer after recording 300 Bathurst 1000 triumphs, 495 championship race wins and 19 Australian Touring Car or V8 Supercars Championships. This model will add some more records under its name, as of the 24 entries registered for the 2016 season, 13 will be driving Holdens.

According to Betty Klimenko, Erebus Motorsports owner, “Holden has proved its competitiveness in the sport again and again. Erebus has experienced success, but with the switch to Holden combined with our experienced personnel in Barry Ryan and Campbell Little, and David Reynolds behind the wheel, we have every chance to win more often.

Reynolds is not a stranger to Commodore, as he recently stated, “I made my V8 Supercars debut in a Commodore, but since I last raced a Holden the series moved into the Car Of The Future era. Since then, the VF Commodore has proven to be the car of choice, and I see the change to Holden as a positive for Erebus Motorsport.
