Mercedes-Benz India Gets Its First Young Star Driver

The “Mercedes-Benz Young Star Driver” was essentially a part professional part off-beat initiative which hds the main task of finding the next best racing driver in India. The driving events platform was launched back in January and the response was overwhelming, with almost 3200 applicants from 48 Indian cities being received by Mercedes-Benz India.

“Motorsports has been the DNA of brand Mercedes-Benz and we are proud of our long and successful association with different forms of motorsports across the globe and our unsurpassable racetrack achievements. It was Mercedes-Benz vision to identify and nurture motorsports talents in India and ‘Mercedes-Benz Young Star Driver’ programme is yet another pioneering effort in realizing that vision. The overwhelming response from youngsters across India, be it small towns or big metros, aspiring to make a career on the race track has made this one-of-its kind initiative a huge success and reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s leadership in pioneering unique engagements not only for our customers but also for motorsports enthusiasts.” said Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India.

The racing program was conducted in association with the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), while the applicants/contenders had to be between 15 and 25 years old to participate in the driving tests.

The three winners of the final event were Niranjan B Todkar in first place, Diljith Winner in second place (he'll always be a winner with that last name, ed) and Mezaan Anees in third place. All three will receive special AMG racing training, but only the overall winner will also receive a special one-race weekend internship with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team, plus a seat in the AMG Driving Academy Basic and Advanced course in India and one in the next Pro-Training level in Germany.
