While Mercedes is doing well in keeping up with US luxury sales in recent months, as Lexus faults from its top stop to third place in the segment, the Daimler division is still lagging a bit behind rival BMW. Thus Mercedes Benz USA are focusing on increasing market share in the region by taking to a relatively untouched segment - volume sales of front-wheel drive compact cars. According to an Auto Week report, this and a number of different versions of the C-Class, due to be redesigned for 2014, are key.
Probably the most important compact is the A-Class, which Mercedes-Benz USA originally didn’t want. However, the sleek design of the concept that came to New York this year convinced not only the public, but also the company’s top executives.
Next up is the B-Class, which in its people-mover base form might lack a bit of luster, but will also spawn the cheapest Mercedes sedan and a crossover soon.
As for the midlife refresh for the C-Class, this will bring hybrid and clean diesel variant to all 50 states. In the larger car segment, the CL coupe will receive a facelift soon, and the new S-Class will come to the US in 2013.
