On Tuesday night, a car smashed into the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle in New York, going through the glass doors and coming at a stop near the concierge’s desk.
Two people were injured in the accident, CBS New York reports, and both seem to have been working for the apartment complex. After the car halted, the driver got out and sat on the sofa in absolute silence and not making any gestures, Trump Plaza staff tell the same media outlet.
Whether he was in shock or under the influence is yet to be determined. However, CBS New York says that police are considering the crash an accident and not a deliberate gesture. They’re yet to make a statement on what could have caused the driver to lose control of the black Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe.
The crash happened at about 9 o’clock in the evening, when plenty of people were still around. As such, it’s almost a miracle that only 2 people were hurt: CBS says that their injuries are not life-threatening but they were still taken to the hospital as a precaution.
On the other hand, the coupe was totaled. Videos from the scene available at the bottom of the page, showing the car being towed out of the building’s lobby, leave no room for doubt as to the extent of damage it took.
As for the damage to the building, as of the time of writing, it looks like it was minor, as the car smashed only the glass doors and did not cause structural damage. A proper analysis will confirm this in the following days.
The building is a 40-story luxury apartment complex and was developed in 2007 by Cappelli Enterprises under a licensing deal with Trump Organization. Because Donald Trump is the current President of the United States, any accident of the type that occurs on any of his properties has to be investigated as a potential terrorism act.
