We're nearing the end of 2015, but this is still the year Mercedes-Benz is celebrating a quarter of a century since the 190 E 2.5 16V Evolution II made its motorsport debut to great effect.
Back in 2013, a year when the Stuttgart-based company wasn't celebrating anything in particular related to the legendary sports saloon, Mercedes-Benz Classic built a 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II as a touring race car to compete in historical events.

And this October that is exactly what it will be doing. That same Evo II race car will be driven by another motorsport legend, female driver Ellen Lohr, during the 2015 ADAC Westfalen Trophy.

Time for another quick time travel, this time a little further back to 1992. It was the year Ellen Lohr was driving in the German touring car championship, and she was doing a pretty good job. At the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, she managed to become the first and only female driver ever to win a DTM race. That happened at the Hockenheimring, but the whole season turned out to be an excellent one for Mercedes-Benz, taking up all three top spots.

Between 23 and 25 October, Ellen Lohr and the rebuilt Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II will be on the Nurburgring, taking part in the Youngtimer Trophy. The organizers are expecting over 500 historical and current race cars that will compete on the Nurburgring.

The first two days are set to focus on the Grand Prix section of the circuit while the final day will see racing on the whole circuit, including the famous north loop. This will be some sort of homecoming for the Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II, which debuted on the North Loop of the Nürburgring on 16 June 1990.

Time for some technical specs: the Evo II used the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 373 hp (from the 235 hp on the road-going car). This gave it a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), with the prodution version topping off at 250 km/h (155 mph).
