We're not quite sure how relevant this drag race is. After all, the only Macan you can buy right now is the base model with the 2-liter turbo because of all the WLTP nonsense and the facelift. But still, we have Porsche's V6 being hopelessly outmatched by the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.
To be fair, pretty much everything in this side of the market is outgunned by the AMG because they are the only ones to use a twin-turbo V8. It's "only" making 510 horsepower in the GLC, but only the Alfa Romeo Stelvio can match that.
Speaking of the competition between those two, the Italian sports truck was the fastest around the Nurburgring until the GLC 63 decided it wanted a record and took it this week. So it's not just fast in a straight line!
Top Gear has been teasing this drag race, as a walkaround video of the two came out a while back. And while the results of their shootouts have been controversial and hotly disputed on YouTube, very few people will have trouble swallowing this pill: the Macan loses badly. Oops, we spoiled it!
The Macan Turbo is not a bad speed machine. It's got the Porsche launch control helping it, and despite the platform belonging to Audi, its V6 is developed in-house with wide pistons and a short stroke. The standard model brings only 400 HP to the table, which can be boosted to 440 HP by the Performance Pack.
Still, when new, this bad boy cost €92,000 plus options, which is a lot of money for something that loses drag races. Not that the GLC 63 S is cheap. While watching the action unfold, we couldn't help thinking that you could probably get more performance for less from something like a Camaro or even an Audi TT.
