Running costs can get really dreary if you own a supercar, especially in the long run. Take McLaren for example: the basic warranty has got you covered for 3 years, a period mirrored by the standard powertrain warranty and roadside assistance coverage.
In terms of corrosion and perforation, even the 570S comes with a 5-year warranty for that. That’s nice and all, but what happens after the warranty expires? McLaren thought hard about this circumstance and, to the satisfaction of existing and future owners, announced that the Extended Warranty can be renewed up to the vehicle’s 12th birthday.

Good news for high-mileage drivers, then, especially the Japanese lawyer with the green P1 and the Swiss owner of a 12C Spider with more than 81,000 miles (130,000 kilometers) showing on the clock. Jokes aside, high-performance machines need high-quality regular maintenance. With an extended warranty, McLaren owners and their beloved cars can rest easy.

Before this announcement, the McLaren Extended Warranty could’ve been extended up to the vehicle’s 7th anniversary. Things covered by the plan include the majority of factory-fitted parts. Available for Super and Sports Series models, extended warranty guarantees the use of genuine parts, roadside assistance (only in select markets), as well as unlimited mileage cover. The scheme is available on two conditions: no more than 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometers) and at least 90 days of ownership.

For purchase directly from McLaren dealers, the cover can be bought for the duration of 1 or 2 years no later than prior to the vehicle’s 10th anniversary. At the present moment, however, the 12-year Extended Warranty plan is not available in Australia and the Republic of China. Fret not, though, because McLaren is cooking something up for 2017 for these two markets.

“Owners want the reassurance that their car will still be looked after to the same standards with which it was built. And they want to continue to enjoy their McLaren without worry. Sometimes daily,” declared Carl Whipp, the Aftersales Director at McLaren’s passenger car division. “It’s for them that we launched the Extended Warranty and now with this further enhancement to the coverage period, it will continue to give complete peace of mind."

Mind you, thinks like the clutch assembly, spark plugs, paintwork, and damage caused by contaminated fuel are excluded from the Extended Warranty.
