The McLaren F1, with its gold-lined engine cover, central driving position and BMW V12 engine is a hugely impressive automobile, which back in 1992 when it was first launched, was about one decade ahead of all of its rivals, in terms of engineering, performance, and dare we say it - looks (it may not be properly pretty, but it is well proportioned and it has an air of high-tech about it, which cars in the early 1990s just didn’t have).
Now, a 29 year-old Briton, Tom Hartley Jr. has just sold his example of McLaren F1, for the huge price of £3.5- ($5.5-) million. One of 106 ever built, Hartley’s F1 is more expensive than any modern car, or equivalent, being three times dearer than a Veyron, for instance. Harley said: “It was light-years ahead of its rivals and the model that I have sold is undoubtedly one of the best of the road-going F1s ever built."
It seems that the F1 really made a lasting impact on the supercar world, and while it may not be the fastest car in the world any more, it still holds the title for the fastest non-turbocharged supercar. Its official top speed is 386 km/h (240 mph), yet it is said that it could very well pull off a seventh gear, thus possibly nudging on the door of 400 km/h is not that far fetched.
