McLaren has been working on a new entry-level model to sit below the 650S for over a year now and its debut is imminent. We've just learned a crucial bit of information, the horsepower output, which will be exact 570 PS (hp DIN).
The brand new McLaren Sports Series model will be unveiled to the public at the New York Auto Show in April and will probably hit the web a few days before that. But there is also a European debut planned for the AutoRAI 2015, an event held in the Netherlands.
Telegraaf Autovisie has learned that the model is called the 570S and will first be launched as a coupe, followed by the spyder. With that much power available, it will be a serious competitor for the Porsche 911, the Aston V12 Vantage S and the Jaguar F-Type R.
Recent teaser videos have shown that the Sports Series may actually be all-wheel drive, which could mean it's almost as fast as the 650S off the line.
The AutoRAI 2015 takes place between the 17th and the 26th of April, so it perfectly coincides with the New York venue. There might also be an Asian market debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, though this hasn't been confirmed yet. We know there will also be a 5XXC model for the Asian markets, which might have slightly less power, around 550.
The latest report ties in with previous ones, which said the new model would be called 5xxS, following the same naming scheme as its big brother. All that power will come from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and will be used to motivate a lightweight carbon fiber chassis.
