In our second installment of how not to market a Mercedes-Benz car, with the first one being about the S-Class W222 from a couple of weeks ago, MB USA is trying to sell their CLA newcomer to American clients by using marketing methods that are probably even older than the three-pointed star brand itself.
In short, they have a very interesting product in the (beautiful) shape of the CLA and they're trying to market it as good as they can, and there is obviously nothing wrong with that.
On the other hand, when in almost six and a half minutes of CLA promo the main attribute of the car seems to be the starting price, then there might be a bit of a marketing problem.
Yes, the CLA 250 has a starting price of $29,900 without destination charges, which makes it the cheapest Mercedes-Benz available in the United States and it's most likely the main reason for its aggressive 60% or so conquest rate.
That doesn't mean that it's just a pretty Mercedes-Benz that can be head for peanuts – OK, those would be some pretty expensive peanuts – but it has other qualities as well. It's the world's most aerodynamic car, has a decent fuel consumption and performance and it's about as safe as a car in its segment can be.
We could go on about various other ways in which the CLA could be marketed, but we'd better leave you to watch the following video for yourself and tell us what you think about it.
