A 56,082-strong scooter fleet is to be recalled in India, Autocar announces. India Yamaha Motor has initiated a voluntary recall for their Ray scooters after detecting an issue with the handlebars.
According to the same media outlet, the source of the problem is the welding process and the affected units may have insufficiently strong bars for safe operation.
Yamaha discovered this problem during one of their field studies and has already started bringing in the affected Ray scooters on Saturday, July 20th. Owners will be reached via email and phone and Yamaha dealers will replace all the defective handlebars free of charge.
Given the extensive nature of the recall, no estimation of when will the process end was given. Yamaha stresses that the new Ray Z scooters are not affected by this issue.
