Massa: "I Could Have Taken Drugs, But I Didn't!"

Having spent so much time outside the racing action of Formula One, Felipe Massa felt the need to enter the public eye after a low-profile 2009 season with Ferrari. The Brazilian suffered a horrible accident that almost ended his F1 career – and also endangered his life – during the Hungarian Grand Prix and was out of the picture for the last few months.

However, as almost every statement of his tends to become over-proportionate in the media, his latest comments in an interview with Brazilian radio station Jovem Pan would most likely qualify as headlines.

Referring to the period of time to be spent preparing to become an F1 driver – and even during his career in the Great Circle – Massa reckoned he could have easily taken drugs and forget all about his sporting life. However, in a time when admitting to drug-using habits seems like a cool thing – see Andre Agassi's case – Massa strongly denied having ever used drugs of any kind.

Friends are very important in life. But also important is having a goal in life, and for me that was sport. I used to know people who would do drugs and I could have easily fallen in this game also, but I didn't do it because that was not important to me. I have never used performance-enhancing drugs in my entire career,” said Massa for the aforementioned source.

In addition, the Brazilian driver revealed that the birth of his first child will change his life completely, as he will now have to commit to an additional role, besides race driver and husband.

It will be an important change in my life. I will no longer be a race driver, but a father who will have to take good care of his own life and 100% of his son's,” added Massa.
