Massa Warns Alonso He Has to Fight for Status

Although he has been out of Formula One action for a few months, Felipe Massa has no worries about his status at Ferrari in 2010. If anything, Fernando Alonso's arrival to Maranello has only made the Brazilian driver more eager to fight for results.

It's no secret that Massa's position at Ferrari will be on the line in 2010, as the Brazilian's contract with the Scuderia runs out at the end of next year. Consequently, the Brazilian driver will not only fight for the No 1 status in the team, but also for his seat with the prancing horse. Nonetheless, Massa doesn't seem too worried about it, as he insists his new teammate will have to fight hard to earn his status at Ferrari.

Whoever comes to Ferrari is always going to be a very strong driver, because they (Ferrari) always have the best ones. (In 2010) I will do as I always have done: try to win,” said Massa in an interview with Brazil's Jovem Pan FM radio, admitting that Alonso is one of the toughest drivers currently racing in Formula One.

However, having to drive alongside highly-rated drivers like Kimi Raikkonen and, most of all, 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher over his Ferrari years has made quite an impression on him, making him ready to take up any challenge in F1. Partnering such strong drivers was exactly what pushed him forward and almost got him a title back in 2008.

The work within a team is always collective. Schumacher carried a great influence at Ferrari because he earned it. He arrived, worked and created a competitive team. To have that position you have to work hard and achieve results,” insisted Massa.

Alonso will come at Ferrari having spent two struggling years at Renault. In 2009, the Spaniard completed his first season in the last 5 years without a single win in his pocket, therefore he'll come at Ferrari hungry for F1 victories and, hopefully, F1 titles.
