Mark Webber to Undergo Surgery Before the German GP

With the German Grand Prix at Nurburgring scheduled three weekends from now, most of the Formula One drivers already made plans for this year's summer vacation. While the majority of them are leaving for exotic destinations in order to relax and forget about F1 action, Red Bull's Mark Webber will take this time to undergo another surgery, following his winter cycling accident.

The Australian driver spent most of the off-season in recuperation and, although he wasn't 100% physically fit to enter an F1 car, he decided to test the RB5 a few weeks before the season opener in Australia. He has been driving in the same condition ever since, which makes his 4 podium finishes in 8 races even more valuable.

I'm having the two locking screws at the bottom of my right shin taken out. The bone has recovered sufficiently for the screws to be removed, which is great news. It's not a big operation, just a local anesthetic,” said the 32-year old Aussie, as reported by the GMM news agency.

However, that isn't to mean Webber will remain in the hospital bed for the remainder of the summer vacation. Far from it! The 2009 British Grand Prix runner-up is due to take only a few days of rest, after which he is scheduled to take part in the FIM British Speedway Grand Prix at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

The same weekend, Webber is also to be trackside at Donington Park – future host of the British Grand Prix – for the British rounds of the World Superbike Championship.

I've ridden bikes for longer than I've raced cars, so I'm really looking forward to it,” added the Australian driver.
