Webber: "Button Was Untouchable in Turkey"

Three-time podium finisher in 2009, Red Bull Racing's Mark Webber admitted catching championship leader Jenson Button will be a tough, close to impossible job for anyone this season. The Aussie driver reckoned that the 29-year old Brit is in a great position to clinch the 2009 crown, as he's 26 points ahead of nearest rival and teammate Rubens Barrichello.

While pointing out that two DNFs could easily change things on top of the drivers' standings, Webber realistically added that Button is a very experienced driver that's quite aware that he only needs to score consistent points throughout the upcoming 10 races in order to secure a world title. Winning races should only come as a bonus, thinks the RBR driver.

To have a 26-point lead is an amazing position to be in. But the way the points-scoring system is at the moment, for him to chip away is not that easy if his main competitors are consistent. Two DNFs (did not finish) obviously changes things, but there's no question about it, he's in fantastic shape going forward with seven races down and 10 to go,” said Webber after the Turkish GP.

Even if he's cruising and picks up a lot of results, rather than being on the top step, it's going to be a long time for people to get that back. Finishes are crucial for him, and he's been around long enough to know that,” added Webber.

Although he praised his team's efforts to close the gap on Brawn GP in the constructors' standings, Webber also pointed out that Button was never to be touched in Istanbul.

We expected to be a bit closer in Turkey, to be honest. But there was no way anyone was going to beat Jenson. It wasn't bad for the Constructors' for us, but in the Drivers', Jenson has gone away a bit more,” admitted the 31-year old Australian.
