Even if the Toyota Quantum is considered a mini bus, there is no excuse to cram more than 13 people in it and drive around town, especially if they are kids.

An Eastern Cape Toyota Quantum taxi licensed to carry 13 passengers was stopped by the police which discovered no less than 37 children stuffed in the passenger area.

"We keep emphasising to parents that the safety of their children is very important," police spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi told The Times. "It is important for them to know the vehicle and about their children's safety all the time." he added.

The 25-year-old driver was charged with negligence, reckless driving and overloading his vehicle.

Also known as the HiAce, the Toyota Quantum is a full-size van offered with an engine choice ranging from 2- up to 3-liter in both manual and automatic transmission. Some models are known for their lack of an immobilizer, which makes them very vulnerable to theft.
