There aren't a lot of tuners out there that can pride themselves with making elegant yet intriguing cars like Alpina can. The German tuner has been working with BMW since 1983, making this year the 30th in their long relationship.
Alpina offers for every generation of BMWs a complete reinterpretation based on what customers might like to see on their Bimmers. The range of models from the German tuner includes the D3 (Diesel 3 Series), the B3 S (3 Series turbo petrol engine models), the B3 GT (a variation of the E92 M3), the D5 (5 Series diesel), B5 (5 Series petrol engine variations), the B6 (6 Series) and the B7 (based on the 7 Series).
For those of us that like the luxurious 7 Series but also enjoy great speeds and extreme performance, the Alpina B7 is the best choice out there. While other tuners completely redesign the shape of the 7er, Alpina stays true to the base shape of the limousine and makes only slight design changes to keep the Bimmer's DNA untouched.
The Alpina B7 Bi-Turbo has a 4.4-liter V8 with an improved power output that now measures 540 HP and 730 Nm of torque (close to the M5 specs). Power is transferred to the wheels via the new 8-speed Sport-Automatic transmission with SWITCH-TRONIC, which in combination with the engine's Valvetronic intake technology is responsible for higher efficiency and lower emissions.
The B7 Alpina even offers the xDrive traction system which is not available on the standard 760i Sedan. The starting price for an Alpina B7 is $128,000. That is cheaper than the 760i Sedan which starts at $140,000 in the US and €150,000 in Europe.
