We really enjoy to see aftermarket developers using a complex approach for their developments and we’re referring especially to the cases when a company uses independent feedback to improve its products.
This is exactly what South African tuner LupiniPower has done for its 535 hp Chevrolet Ute SS-based SuperUte project. The first SuperUte was completed at the beginning of the year after a complex six-month development and testing program. The vehicle was subsequently offered to the automotive press for road testing. Members of the South African press put the vehicles through its paces during October and November, with the car passing the tests with flying colors.
"We are delighted with SuperUte reliability and durability," LupiniPower CEO Michele Lupini revealed." Our 20 000 miles of accelerated development trials and media road testing can be equated to 100 000 miles of normal driving even in more aggressive hands."
However, there was one issue: the front bakes had certain overheating issues during the extreme tests. LupiniPower decided to introduce updated front brakes, installing bigger rotors and updated calipers. The company said that it will announce the results of the tests that will be performed with the new stopping kit.
“The most significant aspect of SuperUte's entire development and test process however, is that the test unit stood up to the torture of intense development and a demanding media road test programme without any untoward problems to either the base vehicle or the performance modifications,” stated the press release.
“Only one concern raised its head when LupiniPower's original front brake solution suffered overheating problems in the most extreme of testing conditions. That prompted a rethink of the front brake specification incorporating bigger rotors and higher specification callipers.”
