Horex Performs VR6 Engine Dyno Test

After presenting the 2011 VR6 naked machine from Horex, we thought it was appropriate to bring to you a 20-second video showing a dyno testing of the narrow-angle V6 power unit, so you can hear its sound. The engine will be offered in two guises, one naturally aspirated and the other supercharged, when it will hit the market next year.

Both models will have their units coupled with a six-speed manual transmissions, with drive to the rear via belt rather than chain. The Horex engine is no wider than an inline four-cylinder, and is shorter than a traditional v-engine.

The Horex VR6 1200cc supercharged 15-degree V6 engine will be outputting 197 horsepower at 8500rpm and 150Nm of torque (110 lb.ft.).

“An exceptional VR6 engine is not the only thing that makes the new HOREX truly unique in the world of series-production motorcycles. In fact, the Horex is currently the only bike on the market equipped with a crankshaft-driven supercharger. This high-performance feature gives the new VR6 engine more power and torque – especially at mid-range engine speeds – for smooth, responsive acceleration,” a company statement reads.

“The compact, ultra-modern radial compressor basically functions like a turbocharger. The main difference is that it is driven by a toothed belt connected to the crankshaft instead of forced air through the exhaust system. This enables the supercharger to instantly build up charge pressure – without a trace of turbo lag,” added Horex.

As previously reported, Horex only plans to sell the VR6 naked motorcycle in Germany, Austria and Switzerland initially, for a price of about EUR20,000 (US$26,650 at the current exchange rate). However, the company has also pointed to a second model, which is rumored to already be in the works.
