Looking for a Christmas Gift? Get Yourself an Aircraft Carrier

We're weeks away from Christmas and the gift frenzy has already started for most of us. As always, picking the perfect present for your wives, girlfriends or parents is extremely difficult so every piece of advice that reaches your ears is more than welcome. So here's our recommendation for ladies who'd like to buy their tough husbands a gift without moving a finger (actually, you might have to move a finger when you press the mouse button to buy it).

This is the so-called HMS Invincible, an aircraft carrier whose construction commenced in 1973 at Vickers Shipbuilding, Barrow-in-Furness, and finally got completed in 1980. Unfortunately, we don't know the price, but the guys over at edisposals.com are waiting for your offer via their website.

The saddest thing is that the carrier has had its engine removed, but if you're as rich as our very own Mr. Bach, you shouldn't encounter too many problems in finding a replacement. Otherwise, you might be forced to buy and use it as you second home.

We can't tell you which features are and are not available on the aircraft carrier, so we don't really know for sure if it comes with USB, Bluetooth, voice recognition or navigation. However, these are the technical specs published on the edisposals.com website:

  • Displacement - Current 17000 Tonnes
  • Estimated metal weight - 10000 Tonnes
  • Estimated metal % - 95% mild steel
  • Length - OA 210m, W/L 193m
  • Draught - Fwd 5.2m, Mid 5.8m, Aft 5.8m
  • Beam - Extreme 35m, Ex-walkways 32m, W/L 27.53m
  • Height - 46m (estimated at current draught)
  • Engines - Removed
  • Generators and Pumps - Generally unserviceable or not working
