Lola EX265 Le Mans Prototype Marks MG's Return to Motorsport

MG is like a little re-born chick trying to get its foot in the door of the global automotive market. While in the old days the company was know for making exciting single seater rockets, things gradually switched to the production of ticked Rovers in tuning frocks. The company went bust and then came back to life with the help of Chinese backers.

However, with only one car currently being offered and not that much attention around it, motorsport seems like the next logical step for the the UK motor company. Thus, MG is returning to international motorsport in a move which could see the iconic once marque taking part in the world’s most famous endurance race.

We are of course talking about the Le Mans Series of endurance races throughout Europe, where MG will race together with Team RLR, which runs an MG Lola EX265 sports prototype.

“We have one of the best prepared teams in the Le Mans Series, and the support from MG will ensure that we can be even more competitive both on and off the track throughout the 2011 Le Mans Series season and beyond,” said Nick Reynolds, Team RLR team principal.

“The deal is a great fit for both parties due to the heritage and provenance of the MG Lola EX265, and we are excited to be working closely with such a famous and much loved car manufacturer.  We look forward to repaying MG for its confidence in us by providing many exciting moments for the company and its huge number of followers in the races ahead,”
Reynolds added.

The MG Lola will race at the next round of the 2011 Le Mans Series, which takes place at Silverstone on September 11 when the MG Lola.
